HE might not be able to sniff out drugs or stop criminals dead in their tracks, but Tasmania Police public relations dog Teddy knows how to put smiles on faces.

The almost six-year-old spoodle is the loyal companion of Western Road and Public Order Service Sergeant Fiona Smith.
And while his daily duty involves helping spread positive police messages, he will also feature in this year's Dogs of Launceston book, photographed by Deb Sulzberger.
Following her Australian Institute of Professional Photography's Tasmanian pet photographer of the year award win earlier this month, Sulzberger said she wanted to make a dogs-only book that encompassed some of Launceston's most iconic sites - like the Northern Tasmania Police Headquarters in Cimitiere Street.
Teddy is one of 20 canines likely to feature in the planned "coffee table" book.
"There are so many iconic buildings and locations in Launceston, so I really wanted to shoot in front of all of them," she said.
"I wanted people to know where the photo was taken, without explaining it."
Sergeant Smith said she fell in love with Teddy at first sight and his position as public relations dog was a perfect fit.
Dogs of Launceston is due to be released later this year.
