It will be the 26th running of the Ben Lomond Descent, with the event consisting of mountain biking, canoeing and running.
Organisers are expecting about 100 competitors, who will take part either as individuals or in teams.
The multi-sport challenge will take them from Ben Lomond National Park through the North Esk river valley to Blessington, and will be held over a total distance of 36 kilometres.
Strong performances can be expected from a couple of descent regulars, with Dan Hall the man to beat this year. Having represented Australia at an elite level, his kayaking skills are unmatched here and his endurance translates well to the mountain bike and run legs.
Launceston’s Jody Bush is the leading female contender and she can be expected to be extremely quick on the mountain bike, having been in numerous state and national-level races during the year.
The 16km mountain bike leg starts at 10am on the Ben Lomond tip site and riders will be asked to follow a track that includes fallen trees, creek crossings and rocks before joining Ragged Jack Road and eventually on to the Memorial Hall at Blessington.
The 11km kayak leg starts in the North Esk river at Burns Creek Road bridge and takes competitors to the Musselboro Road bridge.
Runners start at the Musselboro Road Bridge at 2pm for the 9km course, which takes them back to the Memorial Hall at Blessington.
The event will finish with the presentation of trophies for the individual and team winners, and will be followed by a barbecue at the hall.
