The group will provide advice and guidance to the TFGA on freight issues.
TFGA rural affairs manager Nick Steele said the idea had emerged from the TFGA's policy forum held in early July.
"I think freight is a very important issue for Tasmanian farmers, and for Tasmania generally," he said.
"Obviously, we are an island state, so we rely on freight mainly by seas, also air freight, and that's brought about the idea of a freight advisory group."
Mr Steele said the TFGA had already begun calling for expression of interest from those who wish to be part of the group, and had received about 10 responses.
"That's a good sized number for an advisory group, so if we could stay around that number that would be fantastic; we just have to wait and see."
Mr Steele said he expected the group to focus on three key policy areas: the cost of shipping across Bass Strait; the capacity of Tasmania's road network; and improving freight efficiencies.
He said he expected the group to have its first meeting by mid to late August.
Expressions of interest remain open and more information is available from Mr Steele on 6332 1800.
