"I like to think that they will be thinking a little bit differently about things when they leave from when they came in," Elsbury told X-static.
"There's a lot of stuff that a lot of people don't notice, so if you take a second to notice and see things from a different angle, that's where the oddity or the humour can turn up.
"I try to get people to see things from a different perspective, and that's where you can find the comedy."
But Elsbury does acknowledge this approach can vary dependent on the audience that is in front of him.
"Every audience you have, even if you go back to the same venue, is different and the show is a combination of the comedian and the audience and you can head in different directions or thought processes depending on what is in front of you.
"You learn to read the room and to discover which direction that is."
Elsbury will perform in Launceston at Comedy @ Tonic at Country Club Tasmania on Thursday, August 6.
He will perform with David Eastgate. Elsbury says Eastgate contrasts his comedy style perfectly.
"He's a one man rock band and basically a stadium show waiting to happen," Elsbury said.
"His persona is almost character comedy, but not quite, as you can still tell that it is still him in it.
"While I like to get in and pick things apart, he likes to brings a big personality and takes a the audience on a rock band ride."
Doors will open at 6pm, with the comedy starting at 8pm, with tickets $15 on the door.
