Police praised the smooth arrest of the man, who went on a rampage inside a Waratah Road address with a knife early this morning.
He is expected to be charged with assault, damage to property and threatening police.
The 41-year-old is currently being treated for mental health concerns at Launceston General Hospital.
He is not expected to be charged tonight.

UPDATE 1.45pm - By Zona Black: Police have revealed that capsicum spray was used to try and control a 41-year-old man who has been barricaded in a home since 2am on Tuesday morning.
Northern Commander Brett Smith briefed the media at Launceston police headquarters as the stand-off in a Waratah Street home at Rocherlea neared its 11th hour.
Commander Smith said about 2.13am, police responded to a request for assistance, where they came across the man in a situation that escalated.
"There were a number of threats made towards police by the 41-year-old male, and capsicum spray was deployed in an attempt to affect an arrest," Commander Smith said.
"Capsicum spray did not have the effect we intended it to and the male retreated into the house and since that period of time has barricaded himself in the house, and has made a number of verbal threats toward police."
He is known to police, and Commander Smith said there were early indications that he could be affected by drugs, and there were some concerns around his health.
It is believed the man is in possession of a knife, but Commander Smith said he was not believed to be a danger to the surrounding community.
There were occupants inside the home at the time the 41-year-old entered the house, but were able to leave the house safely.
Police have cordoned off a portion of Waratah Street.
"Our approach to these situations is always resolution by negotiation," Commander Smith said.
"We always hold concerns for the man's safety as well and that's always at the forefront of our mind.
"We're relatively comfortable with the resourcing that we've got and we hoping that the situation doesn't continue and that community disruption is minimised."
There are about 15 police on the scene, as well as members of the Tasmania Fire Service.
Commander Smith said they were always in consultation with specialist resources, but at this point in time there was not a need to deploy special operations.
UPDATE 8.20am
Deloraine Detective Inspector Scott Flude said police will "wait out" the situation and confirmed the man is not a threat to the public.
