The more than $14 million scheme will see fully treated water delivered to residents of Ringarooma, Legerwood, Branxholm and Derby by 2016.

Held on Wednesday, the consultation session will give residents an opportunity to speak directly to TasWater staff about the project.

Information given on the night will include details on the engineering and technical details of the 30-kilometre pipeline.

The meeting was called due to the significant amount of interest generated by the project in the community with more sessions to be held in the future.

Dorset Acting Mayor Greg Howard said that scheme would be a positive change for the community. "We've got these towns that have struggled for a really long time," Cr Howard said.

"It's a great thing, not just for the water quality but also for reliability and water pressure."

Earlier in the year, TasWater chief executive Michael Brewster said the upgrade would provide the four townships with a safe, healthy and reliable water supply, in line with national drinking water standards.

"The upgrade will mean that more Tasmanian households will have access to drinking water without the need to boil their water," Mr Brewster said.

"Not only will this benefit the locals but it will help the area develop its tourism and other industries and give businesses a boost during construction."

The community information session will be held at the Ringarooma Visitor Centre on July 22 between 4pm and 6pm.

Residents are able to drop into the session at any point between these times for an informal chat with TasWater staff.
