Mr Bassett was woken on Saturday morning with news that his 2001-model 1000cc bike had vanished from its place in his parents' driveway in Rosslyn Road, Invermay.

Police found gloves contained in its rear seat compartment strewn in a neighbour's driveway but no further evidence of the flame-emblazoned speed machine.

Scrape marks on the driveway fence and scuffed wheel and foot imprints on the grass between where it was inched past his dad's utility are the only signs that Mr Bassett has relating to its disappearance.

"My mum said she heard noises at 3am, a dog bark, but she didn't think anything of it," he said.

"Dad woke me up at 9.40am and he said 'your bike's gone, mate' . . . I got up, I was shocked, put it on Facebook straight away and then called the police."

Mr Bassett said the bike's front wheel was left in lock position and would not have been able to be wheeled in a straight line, unless it was lifted.

"It was out of fuel - they wouldn't have been able to start it, unless they smashed the tank ," he said.

"It got seen down at Pellows [Saws and Mowers at Invermay] - a dude inboxed me and said he saw a bike similar to mine about 7am leaning on a fence.

"I went down there and there was no sign of the bike."

Mr Bassett said he knew of five other occurrences where motorbikes had gone missing in Launceston during recent months.

Tasmania Police said they were aware of Mr Bassett's plight but did not confirm other suspected thefts before the time of publishing.
