DRAPAC Pro Cycling’s Bernard Sulzberger continued his strong form as Tasmania’s open road racing season came to an end on Saturday.
Sulzberger, of Flowery Gully, took out the Devon 80 at Deloraine from teammate Will Clarke.
The duo has entered four of the past five races of the series, with Sulzberger also winning at Symmons Plains and Clarke taking out the Lilydale Classic and Fred Keefe Memorial.
Both have finished 1-2 in the past two events.
Sulzberger’s win came despite starting in a group state (which included Campbell Town Classic winner Harrison Musgrave and Australian under-23 world championship mountain bike representative Scott Bowden), a minute behind the A-grade riders.
Sulzberger and Campbell Town’s Clarke will now turn their attention to their Drapac duties overseas, starting with the London-Surrey Classic in August.
Teams such as Team Sky, BMC and Orica GreenEdge, will all take part, with Mark Cavendish and Bradley Wiggins confirmed starters.
Other events on their agenda include the tours of Colorado and Alberta, and the one-day races of Grand Prix Cycliste de Quebec and Grand Prix Cycliste de Montreal.
Saturday also saw the Sprung SuperChix Series concluded at the Devon 80, with TIS scholarship holder Morgan Gillon winning the race from Nerine Adams and Georgia O’Rourke, and also clinching the series.
The state’s open racing series will resume in early spring.
