In wet and miserable conditions, both teams lacked attacking flair in the first half.
Kingborough had numbers back in defence and nullified the Rangers' front three with much the same story at the other end.
The Lions' Lewis Verdouw had some success working down the right without providing the vital ball in to the box.
Yitay Towns was Rangers' best player in the opening half with assistance from Aiden Rigby, Nick Swirad, Tenzing Anderson and Harry Thannhauser with Joel Schuth at left-back the Lions' best.
With scores tied at nil-all at half-time, the deadlock was broken 15 seconds into the second half when Verdouw smashed a goal home past Rangers goalie James Wilson from an impossible angle.
Northern Rangers pulled one back in the 70th minute courtesy of an Aiden Rigby screamer when he unleashed his left foot shot from just outside the bull's eye in the middle of the park and Lions keeper Andrew Duncan could only get a finger tip on it as it sailed into the net.
The home side then went ahead two minutes later when substitute Chris Hill headed home a delightful cross from Dylan Headland.
Substitute Kenta Yamane provided the icing on the cake when he picked up the ball in the Lions penalty area and swivelled to hit his shot into the back of the net in the 90th minute to give Northern Rangers a 3-1 victory.
In the other match played on Sunday, South Hobart defeated the Glenorchy Knights 7-1.
