"You can't work it out, one week we were beaten by a team that hadn't won a game and then the next week we knock off the reigning premiers," Thorp said.

Thorp was speaking after his Magpies had taken an important scalp beating North Launceston by 44 points at the Devonport Oval.

"Apart from the opening few minutes of the game we were in control for the rest of the afternoon and it was a credit to the players as to the way they responded after losing to Western Storm and the way they trained during the week in preparation for this," he said.

The win keeps Devonport in the top five on the State League ladder and Thorp said he is now looking forward to the clash with Clarence at Blundstone Arena ahead of the bye.

Devonport again exposed North Launceston's poor record on the road with yesterday's loss coming just a few weeks after the team were humbled by Burnie at West Park.

Thorp praised a mix of new recruits, old stars and an injured forward for yesterday's win over North Launceston.

"I thought Sam Douglas was fantastic in the ruck, he went at it all day without a spell and got the chocolates over another good ruckman in Daniel Roozendaal," he said.

"Kurt Hazelwood played on the ball today and gave us that really hard edge every time he was in the play.

"And Aaron McNab was tremendous at full forward even though he was restricted.

"He was on one leg and stayed close to the goal square and was able to finish with seven goals."

For McNab it was his second game back after being sidelined with a hamstring injury for several weeks.

Brayden Butler was another shining light for the Magpies as he made the most of his forward chances.

Shaun McCrossen will have a nervous wait until his case is heard by the State League tribunal on Monday night.

McCrossen had his number taken after North Launceston's Tom Loone was knocked unconscious in the second quarter.

North Launceston was restricted to just four goals in the opening three quarters and made a spirited charge with five goals in the last term but Devonport always seemed to have the answers and were able to outscore the Bombers.

Taylor Whitford, Allan O'Sign and Ethan Petterwood played well for North Launceston but lacked a few mates.
