Running from July 5 to 9, the games are renowned for providing a friendly but competitive environment for student athletes from Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.
Run by Australian University Sport, the games are a key event on the university sporting calendar and attract more than 1800 competitors each year.
UTAS students will compete in men's and women's futsal, men's basketball and women's netball.
UTAS will also have three athletes in the cross-country running including elite athlete program member and national under-18 800m silver medallist Julia Minnucci in the 8km.
A member of the Australian Youth Olympic team for 800m and 1500m, Minnucci is also Tasmanian open champion at both distances.
Launceston students will contest the netball and basketball, with the netball team including Northern Hawks under-19 player Macenzi Lloyd and coached by former Cavaliers captain Savahn Overall.
UTAS student sport development officer Melissa Jelliff said: "This is the first time in a number of years that the UTAS Newnham campus will be so well represented at the Southern University Games.
"This is a reflection of an increased emphasis on sport participation as a part of student life on campus."
UTAS will also send a team to compete at the Australian University Games on the Gold Coast in September.
