Northern Tasmanian Netball Association players Lace McHugh, Nadia Donnelly, Magdalia Koko and Courtney Treloar will be joined by Burnie Netball Association’s Erin Percy in the Tasmanian team with the NTNA’s Piper Newman and Devon’s Hayley McDougall named as reserves.
The 12-member state team, coached by Shane Fish, will head to the new netball stadium at Olympic Park in Sydney for the national competition, which will be held from August 22-28.
‘‘We will play against teams from all of the other states and territories,’’ Fish said.
‘‘The girls were picked from Netball Tasmania’s eight ‘‘Develop a Diamond’’ academies around the state and a round-robin competition which saw a squad of about 32 picked.
‘‘From there they had a weekend camp and we picked a squad of 15 to 18 and those players started training for the state team.’’
Fish said Tassie teams had started to push the bigger states at national junior netball carnivals and hoped for some competitive performances during the week-long tournament.
‘‘The girls only started training a couple of weeks ago but have been training very hard and are looking forward to the opportunity to represent the state,’’ he said.
