MEMBERS of the Launceston and Richmond teams of the century have taken the number of icons in the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame to 18.
AFL Tasmania conducted the 11th induction dinner in Hobart on Friday night, with the highlight being the elevation of Geoffrey ‘‘Paddy’’ Martin and Matthew Richardson.
They join Ivor Warne-Smith and John Leedham (elevated 2014), Verdun Howell and Tim Lane (2013), Bruce Carter and Brent Crosswell (2012), Rodney Eade (2011), Alastair Lynch (2010), Terry Cashion (2009), Arthur Hodgson (2008), Roy Cazaly (2007), Ian Stewart and Royce Hart (2006) and inaugural icons Horrie Gorringe, Darrel Baldock and Peter Hudson.
Devonport-born Richardson kicked 800 goals in 282 games for Richmond between 1993 and 2009, finishing leading goal-kicker a record 13 times and best and fairest in 2007, and established himself as the all-time leading goal-kicker at the MCG with 464.
He was an All-Australian in 1996, 1999 and 2008, played international rules in 1999, and was named in the Tasmanian team of the century in 2004, as a life member of the AFL in 2009 and as an Australian Football Hall of Fame inductee in 2014.
Martin played 331 games for Sandy Bay, Ulverstone, Burnie and Launceston, where he is half-back flank in the team of the century, won an NTFA premiership in 1951 and was captain-coach for the next two seasons.
At Ulverstone he won three NWFU premierships and the 1955 state flag, adding three more NWFU premierships with Burnie as captain-coach 1958-60.
Martin also represented Tasmania at the 1953 national carnival.
A further feature of the evening was the elevation of legends Peter Marquis and Brendon Gale.
As well as the announcement of the icons and legends, the dinner, attended by 400 football luminaries and supporters, recognised the induction of:
