In the latest of the club’s fan engagement exercises, it is asking fans to attempt to set a mark for the longest high five chain.
The record of 1647 was set in Indiana in the US in 2014.
Ticketholders on the day can register from 1pm, with participation costing a gold coin donation, and people must be over the age of six to take part.
It will take place in the Eastern Terrace about an hour before the game’s 3.20pm start.
One lucky participant will win a trip for two to the Hawks’ clash with Richmond at the MCG on July 18.
A cappella group The Exchange will also provide entertainment, capitalising on the Festival of Voices events in Launceston at that time.
The attempt will be used to highlight Give Me 5 For Kids, the match-day charity for the club.
Southern Cross Television personalities Jo Palmer, Rachel Williams and Michael Maney, Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten and Treasurer Peter Gutwein joined Hawthorn’s Tasmanian operations manager, David Cox, and club mascot Hawka on Wednesday to promote the attempt.
‘‘We’re hoping to create a really engaging way to shine a light on the cause (Give Me 5 For Kids),’’ Mr Cox said.
‘‘We will have some run-throughs to make sure it is right, and it has to take place in a contained area in the Eastern Terrace.
‘‘It has to be filmed and has a whole bunch of checks and balances – above the head, hand-to-hand and no more than 10 seconds between each high five, so it is highly regulated.
‘‘We will then submit that to the Guinness World Record authorities in the US.’’
Mr Cox said ticket sales were ‘‘very strong’’ for the clash between the top-of-table Dockers and the two-time reigning premiers, with this year’s best crowd of 15,559 in round 3 under serious threat.
Tickets are available from www.ticketmaster.com.au or ticketmaster outlets, including Theatre North and The CD Centre.
