The 199-centimetre, 101-kilogram ruckman-forward was on Wednesday night named for a Swans side missing forward targets Lance Franklin and Kurt Tippett due to suspension.
The 20-year-old former Northern Bomber from George Town comes into the Sydney side after a 48-hit-out for the Swans’ reserves in the NEAFL the previous week.
‘‘I think I have been pretty consistent, especially over the last month or so,’’ the 35th pick in the 2013 national draft said on Sydney’s website on Wednesday night.
‘‘My strength is my will to compete and my will to win, so hopefully I’ll bring that tomorrow night. I’m pretty excited for it and pumped to get out there and hopefully contribute to a good win.
‘‘I’m not going to put too much pressure on myself, as long as I play my role and compete that’s all I can ask for.’’
Sydney coach John Longmire, also speaking on the club’s website, said that Nankervis had ‘‘been working really hard for his chance’’.
‘‘He competes very hard and has been developing his craft well in the NEAFL and we expect him to make a contribution on Thursday night,’’ Longmire said.
‘‘That contribution will be to bring the ball to ground and put some pressure on which he’s very good at.’’
He will come up against a Power side featuring strong ruck options such as Paddy Ryder and Matthew Lobbe, and key-defenders like Alipate Carlile and Jackson Trengove.
Fellow ruckman Mike Pyke has also been included.
Nankervis’s debut comes on the back of Launceston’s Jake Kolodjashnij getting his first game for Geelong in round 12.
They are two of three Tasmanians to make their debut this season, along with Ulverstone’s Alex Pearce at Fremantle.
