Michael John Price, 45, appeared briefly at the Magistrates Court in Hobart this morning via videolink from the reception centre.
He has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm after an alleged attack at Austins Ferry earlier this month.
A 43-year-old woman injured in the alleged attack suffered severe burns to her chest and face.
Price has also been charged with assaulting the same woman in April.
Police allege he grabbed the woman's hand and wrist, bending it backwards until it broke.
Price was not required to enter pleas at this morning's appearance.
He has been remanded in custody to reappear in court on July 22.
Price is expected to appear in person on the next occasion.
