Police say that both drivers have escaped serious injury and have been taken to the Launceston General Hospital for observation.

The crash scene is now clear and traffic flow has returned to normal.

An early morning two-car crash in Launceston is likely to cause traffic delays.

The crash between a four-wheel-drive and a sedan occurred at the junction of Howick and Wellington streets at South Launceston just before 7.30am on Tuesday.

Police say that the driver of the sedan is trapped inside.

Details on injuries are not available.

Emergency services are in attendance.

While the scene should be cleared within an hour, traffic disruptions are likely until about 8.30am.
