Coach Clinton Proctor said he had addressed a more committed defensive effort with his players and has been rewarded in the past fortnight.
Always content that the Dockers had the ability to kick a winning score, Proctor was worried about the freedom his team was giving the opposition.
"I was happy with the previous week when we kept the Western Storm to just two goals after quarter time and it was a similar effort against Hobart," he said.
Hobart City was stranded on just two goals until deep into the final quarter when the kicked two in "junk time" and overall the 58-point win pleased Proctor.
He said it was tricky to kick goals in the windy conditions at West Park and he was more than content with his team's effort after the half-time break.
"We kicked six goals with the wind in the third term and finished it off with three goals in the final quarter,".
Burnie went into the game without their coach as well as Tasmanian captain Jason Laycock who are both sidelined with hamstring complaints but it made little difference to the team's performance.
Burnie had winners across most lines with Proctor quick to single out defender Brad Harvey and brothers Nick and Harry Walters.
"Brad did a really good job shutting down a dangerous player in Julian Dobosz who was kept goalless until the last couple of minutes and Nick attacked from the half- back line to do his role.
The Walters brothers finished with six goals between them continuing the wonderfully consistent season for the pair.
Hobart City was never in the contest and had no answer to the Dockers particularly in the second half despite the efforts of Rhys Heald, Hugh Williams, Jake Briggs and Calen Jeffery.
Burnie now plays Lauderdale in what Proctor believes will be a very interesting match with the Southern Bombers on the rebound after being beaten by the Kingborough Tigers.
The Dockers will most likely play without Proctor and Laycock next Saturday.
