Registration is now open for the 2015 Dry July charity event, which involves participants going alcohol-free for a month and raising money.
Dry July ambassador, Speaker Elise Archer, said all funds raised in Tasmania would stay in the state to help the Cancer Council to deliver support and services to cancer patients and their families.
‘‘When I was asked to take part in this fundraiser last year, I was inspired to do so because a dear friend of mine who was fighting terminal brain cancer,’’ Ms Archer said.
‘‘Tragically, she has since lost her battle, which makes me even more motivated to go dry again this July,’’ she said.
Cancer Council chief executive Penny Egan said $50,000 was raised last year.
‘‘It allowed us to purchase a new transport-to-treatment vehicle for the south of the state,’’ Ms Egan said.
‘‘So this year if we can purchase another vehicle for the rest of the state that would be fantastic,’’ she said.
