The Launceston band is trying to raise $3000 for costs associated with the production of its first studio EP.
If its Pozible campaign is successful, Arts Tamania will match the funding with an extra 50 per cent.
Vocalist Sarah Triffitt encouraged people to give what they could.
"If you can spare what you pay for a six-pack of beer or a bottle of wine then that contributes to what we want to do for Tasmania," she said.
"We want to be able to travel to the mainland at the end of the year and say 'we're from Launceston' and be proud, and we want people to be proud of that.
"Basically we're asking for people's help and support for local original music and getting it off the ground and getting it to a broader audience."
Sylphonic Productions' Tim Kling has worked with the band on their six-track album, which has been recorded between the Palais Theatre at Franklin and Kling's studio.
Triffitt said fans would be treated to two new songs, one that had been performed a couple of times and three familiar tunes.
"It's really quite personal, but not so personal that people can't relate to it," she said.
"It's about general life, relationships and the shit we have to go through in finding happiness and with finding that light at the end of the tunnel.
"We're hoping it'll be ready to go and launch by spring."
The recording of their EP tops off a busy year for Paper Souls.
Triffitt, her husband Luke and cellist Denni Sulzberger were joined by bassist Cam Locke and drummer Cameron Jones in April last year.
The band has since gone on to play sets at Falls Festival and Festivale.
"Since we became a five-piece full band in April last year things have just gotten bigger and better and more exciting for us," Triffitt said.
"We believe our music will stand up among that of Australia's best."
Donors to Paper Souls' Pozible campaign will receive rewards proportionate to their payment.
Donations of $10 will be matched with a digital copy of the album; $100 or more will give donors a limited edition print from artist Angela Matthews.
