On the final day of the Wine Tasmania annual conference, Wine Australia stakeholder engagement manager Ali Lockwood said it was critical to get the state’s fine wines on the international market.
Bass Liberal MHA Sarah Courtney said the government was doing a lot for the wine industry, including providing support for marketing, promotion, research and development, access to finance and investment attraction.
Ms Lockwood said it came down to investment from the state government to help promote wineries, such as through the export market development grant which provides up to 50 per cent back on marketing costs.
‘‘Some wineries can’t sustain export but it’s more about sowing the seeds of interest and creating that demand and interest in Australian wine, particularly to media internationally,’’ Ms Lockwood said.
She said it was also important that wineries were export-ready.
