HILLWOOD 6.4 (40)
DELORAINE had too much firepower overpowering Hillwood to win their NTFA division 1 clash by 64 points at Hillwood on Saturday.
The Roos dominated after quarter-time and ran out easy winners 15.14 (104) to 6.4 (40).
Shannon Buller was one of Deloraine’s best players kicking three goals against his old team with two goals each to Dylan Visser and Jason Griffin.
Rhys Gofton was Hillwood’s only multiple goalkicker with two.
‘‘I was pretty pleased with three quarters and we considered it a danger game not knowing a lot about Hillwood,’’ Deloraine coach Rory Mansell said.
‘‘I thought we pretty much controlled the game for the first three quarters but let ourselves down a bit when we had a chance to put an exclamation mark on the victory and let them get a few cheap goals at the end which was a bit disappointing.’’
Mansell said the Roos’ skill level and run was far superior to Hillwood’s and all the players stuck to their game plan.
‘‘Especially considering we had a couple of guys missing in Dylan Riley and Rulla Kelly-Mansell who have been two of our best players this year – it was really pleasing to perform how we did.’’
Mansell praised the game of Buller in the midfield and up forward and said midfielders Tyson Gardam, Ben Killalea and ruckman Jimmy Aganas were all outstanding.
The Roos had no injuries as they prepare for George Town next week at Deloraine and Mansell said he was happy with the progress of his side being 7-1 at the end of the first round.
‘‘We were comprehensively beaten by South but we will look to be much more competitive against them next time we play but the focus is still week to week at this stage,’’ he said.
Ashley Salter, Jed Savage and Elliot Barnes were among the better players for Hillwood.
