The email claims to be from Australian Federal Police at Police, notice@affairmarketing.com, telling the recipient that there is photographic evidence of them possibly committing a traffic infringement.
It then tells the recipient to click on a link to "check out your intrusion info".
Police have advised anyone who receives the email to not click on any links, delete the email, and run a virus scan.
On its Facebook page, Tasmania Police posted that:
''Things to be on the lookout for:
What is the email address the email has come from? A marketing company sending a traffic fine, is cause for concern.
Grammatical errors: In general, our sentence construction makes sense and does not require a quizzical look or a frown of the eye-brow.
Spelling mistakes: The AFP know how to spell Australian."
