The Tornadoes only managed to win six games last season and now sit fourth, emphasising the impact that Potter has had in his first year at the helm.
"Its nice to get the acknowledgement, especially in my first SEABL head coach role," he said.
"But realistically it should be team of the month because that's what the award really reflects. We've all worked really hard to get to this point.
"The reward is proof and now our focus as a group is on the next month moving forward, in particular our next game against last year's title holders Brisbane."
Potter has extreme confidence in his group and attributed the Torns' winning form to a great team culture:
"They are a hardworking group of players who go about things in the right way and understand what we are here for."
Club president Janie Finlay was not surprised at the recognition.
"From day one Reece has been nothing but professional and deliberate," she said.
"He established high expectations from the outset and has not been backward in reminding everyone of those expectations. He has worked hard and quickly gained the respect and trust of our playing group and the board.
Raised in Maitland, Potter followed in the footsteps of his father Russell who is an accomplished New South Wales junior coach.
Potter was assistant coach for Sydney Uni Flames in the WNBL before his appointment with the Tornadoes, holds a certificate 2 in coaching and is studying his graduate certificate in sports coaching.
"Reece has an extraordinary future ahead of him and we're so proud to be a part of his journey," Finlay added.
The Tornadoes received additional recognition with Mikaela Ruef and Ally Wilson named in the halfway SEABL all-star team.
After the SEABL bye for the long weekend, the Tornadoes will regroup on Monday in preparation for a road trip double-header against Brisbane and Sandringham.
