The program for the chamber music shows at the Devonport Regional Gallery on Saturday and Westbury’s Fitzpatrick’s Inn on Sunday will be led by Jillian Norton on the flute, cello player Martin Penicka and pianist Amanda Hodder – all Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra performers.
Artistic director Steve Martin said the ensemble would present music by arch-romantics Carl Maria von Weber and Johann Nepomuk Hummel, added to music of the French composer Philippe Gaubert and that of Argentine tango master Astor Piazzolla.
‘‘It is a lot of composers that people aren’t too aware of, but they were great composers in their day,’’ Martin said.
‘‘Gaubert was one of the greatest flautist of the French impressionist era and it will be a beautiful start to the season.
‘‘It will be a concert that people may not have experienced before.’’
Norton said she shared a love-hate relationship with Gaubert and that the first piece would be his Piece Romantique.
‘‘I love his music but I hate all of the scales and things I had to practice as a university student,’’ she said.
‘‘I enjoy playing chamber music and telling stories to an audience ... these concerts aren’t as common as they once were – it’s a reasonably rare opportunity.’’
