The former Socceroo was unveiled at Brisbane Roar on Friday, where he has been hired on a two-year deal to replace outgoing interim coach Frans Thijsen, who was installed after the sacking of Mike Mulvey just weeks into the season.

Aloisi's appointment may be just the tonic for the Roar, who underwent a season of trauma and are facing significant financial hurdles. They must also stave off a lawsuit from Mulvey, who contends he is owed money for failure to pay out his deal.

After a poor record at Melbourne Heart, where he presided over 24 losses from 39 matches, Aloisi's recruitment has hardly been met with roars of approval from Roar fans, although they've been wrong before.

Ange Postecoglou was greeted with scepticism when he arrived but produced multiple championships. Mulvey was given similar treatment before he too won a title, only to be discarded soon afterwards.

But Aloisi contends he's a far better coach than he was in Melbourne. After stints overseas, including time observing the structures at Spanish giant Barcelona, he returned to work with Melbourne Victory's youth team before opportunity arose in Brisbane.

"I expect that [scepticism]. It's normal that people aren't always convinced, especially since I wasn't so successful at Melbourne Heart," Aloisi said.

"I can only do my job. Ange wasn't well received when he came here and look what he ended up achieving. If I was worried about what people might say, or wasn't confident I wouldn't do well, I would have stayed in the media."

Brisbane's fall from grace was dramatic. They started the season poorly and dumped Mulvey amid claims he wasn't following the "philosophy" of technical director Ken Stead, who has parted ways with the Roar in their most-recent cull that also included managing director Sean Dobson.

Aloisi said he respected the attack and possession game of the Roar and would ensure that DNA remained in tact under his watch. But his best lessons come from his time in Melbourne, where he struggled but emerged the more astute manager.

"It was my first job as a head coach, so you learn from mistakes you make. You probably learn when you're not successful because you have to look back and see what you didn't do so well," Aloisi said.

"Since then, I've been able to spend this time pretty wisely, speaking to people that have been successful like Ange. Ange has been great for me, a mentor.

"I went overseas, spent time with quite a few clubs. I spent time on Fox Sports, analysing games, seeing the media side of things, which is always interesting."

Aloisi said he wouldn't make drastic changes to the squad given three-quarters of the current group were already contracted.
