The man, who was 24 years-of-age, has been identified and police are in the process of informing the next of kin.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
EARLIER:Tasmania Police have recovered a partially decomposed body from water near the Elizabeth Street Pier in Hobart last night.
Police say that two divers from a local dive club were on a night dive when they discovered the body about 8pm yesterday.
The body is believed to be male and was recovered in about 10 metres of water by police divers about 10pm.
A search of the immediate underwater area failed to locate any items of interest, police say.
"At this stage, the circumstances surrounding the death are unclear," Southern District Duty Inspector, Inspector Adrian Bodnar said.
"Further investigations will continue during (today) ... directed towards establishing the identity of the deceased and cause of death."
Investigations, including an examination by the state pathologist, are continuing.
