"In my opinion, this is a kilometre and a half of dangerous road and the current speed limit allows drivers to go back to 100km/h for the sake of 500 metres and speed up and over the hill, causing a danger for both Austin’s Road and Carey’s Lane intersections," Cr Hall said.
Council regulatory services manager David Jolly said at the May meeting that he had raised Cr Hall's concerns with the Department of StateGrowth, which committed to review speed limits and arrange for a traffic engineer to speak with Cr Hall and to provide comment to the council.
Cr Hall also asked if it would be possible to place a roundabout on the George/Ellenor/Cameron Street intersection as he believed it was fast becoming a death trap.
In reply, Mr Jolly said that The department had advised it would be difficult to fit a suitably sized roundabout at this intersection to provide for B Doubles.
State policy requires that roundabouts on state roads should be designed so that the design vehicle does not have to mount the central island and he suspected this would be "very difficult" to achieve.
"There is a need to review the crash history and treat the issue, a roundabout may not be the most cost effective treatment," he said.
"Council officers have met several times with State Growth traffic engineers over the last 12 months to discuss a number of traffic matters associated with the intersection.
"As a result Council has arranged for a survey of the intersection to be undertaken and is currently waiting on receipt of the survey."
Mr Jolly said that he would meet with the department to determine possible cost effective treatments.
