Play readings organised by Friends of Theatre North will be held as a fundraising and feedback session to benefit the Princess Theatre and its aspiring playwrights.
Plays from established playwright Stella Kent and up-and-comer Marcus Bower will be performed from 7.30pm that night.
Event co-convener Suzie Bower said they were hoping for a good audience on the night.
‘‘Play readings are a good way of gauging audience response and getting some feedback on productions,’’ Mrs Bower said.
‘‘In Launceston they’re held probably four times a year.
‘‘They’re a good avenue for aspiring playwrights to trial new material ... to see what falls flat and what works.’’
She said there would be an opportunity for audience members to provide feedback during the evening.
Kent’s piece, Wellington on Elba, is a 10-minute play where the Duke of Wellington meets Napoleon, exiled on Elba.
Bower’s piece, Eating Words, is described as a ‘‘comic contemporary dissection of middle-class Tasmanian society’’.
Money raised from the $10 entry will go towards assisting the purchase of items and maintenance of the theatre.
