The experienced multi-sport adventure racer was first across the line after completing a nine-kilometre kayak leg on Lake Trevallyn, an 18km mountain bike ride through the reserve tracks and an 8.5km trail run.
His winning time was 2 hours and 14 minutes.
Hobart’s Alex Hunt performed well to finish second behind Kohlar on his return to multi-sport competition after a patella injury, finishing in 2:17.
Launceston’s James Reid was third in a time of 2:24.
In the women’s section, Launceston’s Rowena Fry was the overall winner completing the three disciplines in 2:41.
It was Fry’s third-straight victory in the Icebreaker Challenge but not as easy as last year with Hobart’s Emma Weitnauer on her tail all the way to finish second in 2:50.
Launceston’s Sally Alps was third.
Race co-ordinator Louise Padgett said the addition of a kid’s race this year proved popular with about 30 youngsters lining up in an adventure race over a one kilometre bush course to raise money for childhood cancer research.
‘‘We had an increase in events and a great expo atmosphere while the spectators watched the competitors suffer,’’ she said.
In the team’s competition, the Alps and Amici A+ girls was successful in 2:31, while in the men’s it was the Hurt Locker team in 2:06.
The winning mixed team was Boy-Boy-Girl in 2:17, with the first junior team home was Young Guns in 1:58.
The veteran male category was won by John Darcey in 2:31 with the masters male winner being Chris Dimos in 2:34.
A total of 180 competitors took part in the event.
