The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra will join forces with British soprano Mary Carewe to perform James Bond: Licence to Thrill at Launceston’s Albert Hall today.
The concert will include famous Bond themes such as Skyfall, Diamonds are Forever, Goldfinger, and Live and Let Die.
Carewe said she enjoyed singing Bond themes because they were often dramatically written to suit the movies.
‘‘I happen to be a singer who likes a bit of drama, and I like to be able to bring that to the concert hall, and I do think as well although most of the songs are written for a rock band backing ... they still suit the symphonic treatment so well, because it just makes them even more epic,’’ she said.
Carewe was asked to perform with the TSO after they saw her perform on a BBC4 television program.
Carewe said she had found the orchestra extremely easy to work with.
‘‘I have to say from the first rehearsal it all was easy-peasy, they were all really into it, lots of smiling faces,’’ she said.
‘‘I’d be delighted to come back and work on a project with them, it just depends what they’ve got in the pipeline, whether there’s a project that would be suitable for me to bring to them, or for them to bring me over for especially.’’
