Police maybe best equipped to deal with such crime but even they concede their job is made much easier with public assistance.
Increased penalties, extremes like mandatory sentencing and more police recruitment will each play their part in the fight against crime, but in the end it comes down to public assistance and engagement.
A phone call to crime stoppers, vigilance surrounding suspicious activity, even recognition of a grainy apparition in our crime stoppers CCTV mug shots will all help.
Australians hate being dobbers.
In the criminal underworld dobbing on someone to police could prove fatal.
Australians will even flash their lights to oncoming motorists when they spot a speed camera, as if they're doing the oncoming lead-foot a favour.
But, the reality is criminals do not deserve our sanctuary.
They're in it for themselves, whether it be for purely illegal financial gain or just feeding a drug habit.
If you know a crime is being committed and you shrink from what you should do we all lose.
There are no chivalrous Robin Hoods out there, robbing the ruling class to feed the poor.
Just a bunch of self serving criminals ramping up our home insurance premiums, burning down public housing we paid dearly for with our taxes and lining the pockets of drug traffickers.
Stealing is a parasite's kingdom, where each time a place or vehicle is robbed the perpetrator cashes in another ounce of dignity, honesty and self respect.
For that they are the biggest losers.
Don't be conned by them.
They're not clever, they're simply feeding off all of us and apart from hopeless drug addicts they deserve our utter contempt.
They certainly do not deserve our shelter from the law.
