BRISBANE singer-songwriter Dan Parsons's newest single is one that feels very personal, even though it isn't autobiographical.

The song, I'll Live and I'll Die, is one that focuses on the topic of relationships and romance.
"I cobbled the situation which the character goes through in the song from a few different events that aren't related to me specifically," Parsons told X-static.
"It is cobbled together about a few things that I'd observed from people that I have been hanging out with, and on a universal scale, I think it is human nature to be attracted to people even if you are in a really great relationship.
"The song touches on accepting that is human nature and not the worst thing in the world, and it also touches on drawing a line in the sand and having that respect for yourself and the other people around you to watch those kind of temptations and feelings.
"Normally most of my stuff I am writing about myself, and that is important for yourself from a healing point of view as it is an outlet, but you can get a different kind of validation about writing about something from that different point of view.
"This is a situation that anyone and everyone can relate to in some kind of way, so it really was emotionally freeing in a way for me."
It is a taste of his upcoming third album, which will be released in August.
The folk-pop-country artist said the album allows him to be more expansive with his sound.
"There are some real 'let your hair down moments' which I haven't explored in too much detail in the past," Parsons said.
"I've always been known as a self-contained folky sort of artist, but this one, there are some songs that you can even dance to, with some rockier numbers."
Parsons will tour this new side of himself with fellow Brisbane singer-songwriter Steve Grady, who will perform separately and together throughout the set.
"We have a really good musically synergy, and we were playing the other night and he turned to me and said 'it's like playing in the mirror'.
"Steve is the only other male singer-songwriter I know who is just so really similar to what I do, as we have this very specific blend of country, folk and pop and we tend to appreciate the same things about music," Parsons said
Dan Parsons and Steve Grady will play at Launceston's Royal Oak on Friday, a night after playing at the Republic Bar in Hobart.
