James Scott McCabe, 32, faced the Launceston Magistrates Court on Wednesday for sentencing.

He had previously pleaded guilty to stalking and two breaches of bail.

Magistrate Sharon Cure jailed McCabe for eight months, wholly suspended for two years.

Ms Cure also placed McCabe on an 18-month probation order and imposed an indefinite restraint order upon him.

The restraint order bars McCabe from contacting Ms Monk directly or indirectly in any form, knowingly being present within 200 metres of any place where Ms Monk lives or works and it also bars McCabe from publishing any material relating to Ms Monk.

The court previously heard that McCabe had pleaded guilty on the basis that he ought to have known his behaviour was likely to cause apprehension and fear but he did not in fact intend that result.

His offending occurred while he was acutely unwell, suffering from paranoid schizophrenia and under the influence of methylamphetamine, being ice and speed.

McCabe had sent numerous Tweets to Ms Monk between January 2010 and December 2013.

The Tweets were disturbing, explicit, offensive and violent and included references to religion, Hitler, bestiality, war, paedophilia and McCabe’s hallucinations about Ms Monk being sexually assaulted.

McCabe’s conduct frightened Ms Monk who needed to use social media to promote her public profile as a celebrity.

Ms Monk became extremely concerned when McCabe referred to her family members, including child relatives.
