Playing alongside world players of the year Jamie Dwyer and Mark Knowles and their World Cup-winning teammates is something of an eye-opener for a former South Arm Primary School pupil.

‘‘It does take a long time to sink in and I don’t think it truly does, especially when you’re playing,’’ Edwards said.

‘‘We’re very lucky to be able to play with guys who are going to be remembered for a very long time.’’

Having learned his hockey with OHA, the 23-year-old Canberra-born Hobart-raised player has progressed through the TIS and national development squad to become part of the 40-strong national team for this week’s tournament in Hobart.

Although Edwards didn’t make the  final cut, he said collecting his sixth cap in Sunday’s 7-0 defeat of Korea in front of family and friends was a wonderful memory.
