A natural-coloured merino cot blanket from Waverley Woollen Mills is on its way to Buckingham Palace as a gesture of congratulations from the nation to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their daughter.
Ms Rundle said the business was unaware of the gesture until yesterday.
She said shop assistants filled an order bound for official headquarters in Canberra last week but had assumed it was a gift for someone who worked with the government.
‘‘We’re very proud that we were thought of, very excited,’’ Ms Rundle said.
‘‘If whoever made the choice decided on a blanket, we’re the only manufacturers of woollen blankets in Australia, so if they wanted to purchase one I suppose one of the criteria was it had to be purchased in Australia.
‘‘This is a wonderful product made in Launceston.’’
Blankets from Waverley Woollen Mills have also been sent to figureheads including Denmark’s Princess Mary and a former governor-general.
