On paper, this was the most meaningless match of the A-League season. No scoreline, no matter how dramatic, could alter the fixed placings. Western Sydney would finish the season second last after Newcastle's defeat the night before, while Perth Glory were banished into fourth from the bottom after rorting the salary cap.
