Ben Khalfallah has been one of the revelations of the A-League season since joining Victory last year, and his future with the club has been the subject of major debate for the past couple of months.

Several other clubs had made offers to the wide man, but, he said on Friday, there was only one place he wanted to stay - with the club he described as the best in the league in one of the world's great cities.

"It was very easy because I just wanted to stay in Melbourne. It was the first choice and the only choice. Different clubs were interested, but I didn't speak with them. I am in the best club in Australia. I am happy to play here, I work with good people, in the board, the office, the chairman, I am very happy to play with this club," Ben Khallfalah said at a press conference where he was flanked by Victory's football operations manager Paul Trimboli.

"I wasn't interested to speak with other clubs, My first choice was here."

He joked that his six-year-old daughter Anna and his wife, Amanda, had pressed him hard to stay in Victoria, so much did they enjoy living in Melbourne.

"My daughter put me under more pressure than everyone at the club. It's not just about the money. Maybe I can raise more money in other place or other country ...(but) I have everything, my life is very good, the city is fantastic, the club is the biggest club and we will have to prove it on Sunday. I have a very good relationship  with Kevin (Muscat)."

He said it had been difficult to strike the right deal because of the limitations of the salary cap and the financial squeeze that imposed on clubs and players.

"I wanted to know for the next year. We spoke about everything for the future. We have the same conception, we want to win. It was especially important  with my daughter ... we want to stay. It wasn't easy. Everyone made the effort. I am glad now to find the solution with the club. Now we have to be focused on Sunday and the grand final. Now I know I can stay in Melbourne for two years."

Khalfallah said he had been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the A-League. Last year his manager said there had been offers for him from Greece and Turkey, but he decided to take up the one-year deal with Victory because he wanted his child to learn English.

"I didn't know anything about the soccer in Australia. I was excited, a little bit scared. When I came I was very surprised, in France we don't know much about Australia soccer," he said.

"When I came here I was very surprised by the fans when you play in front of big crowds.

"Matthieu (teammate Matthieu Delpierre) told me it was a big surprise. He told me it was a good squad and staff ... the club was very good. It was easy ... my first option was to live in Melbourne, it's one of the best cities in the world.

"I expected nothing. I am surprised by the level of the play. It's less than Europe, that's normal (but) there are very good players, I think a lot of players can play in Europe. It's a very good level. I think Australian soccer can progress."

Trimboli also announced that Victory had signed veteran goalkeeper Michael Turnbull from the Brisbane Strikers as a short-term back-up for Lawrence Thomas, who is now the No.1 following Nathan Coe's season-ending injury.

Turnbull has had extensive experience in the National Soccer League, with Marconi Stallions, and in Europe, where he played with Standard Liege and Bristol City, among other clubs. He also had a short spell in the early years of the A-League with New Zealand Knights.
