The Gold Coast Bulletin reported on Monday that Depp, who plays the lead character Jack Sparrow, did not board a scheduled private chartered flight from Los Angeles to Brisbane.

The 51-year-old flew back to the United States for surgery last month after injuring his hand in an off-set incident. He was expected to return to Queensland a few weeks later.

Filming of the fifth movie in the Pirates franchise was set to resume on Monday, and the Bulletin reported that directors would now have to re-arrange their shot lists because Depp failed to show.

That was denied by the film's publicist Michael Singer.

"The information that was in the Bulletin was not correct," Singer said.

"Johnny Depp is on schedule for what and when he is required to film."

However Singer declined to say when Depp would return to Queensland or what would be happening on set this week.

Singer said all staff returned to work last Thursday after about 200 crew were temporarily stood down from the $250 million production after Depp's injury.

"He's been in recuperation from the surgery and I'm assuming it's coming along extremely well," Singer said.

"The next step is for us to continue making a fifth edition to one of the most popular franchises in film history."

The latest instalment of the popular Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Dead Men Tell No Tales, was previously delayed because of Tropical Cyclone Nathan.
