The 33-year-old said that with the arrival of a new baby, work commitments and a body that wasn't getting any younger, he had made the difficult decision that he could no longer fully commit to the training required for the TSL.
"It was just a matter of family and work-life balance and a combination of things that led to the decision, and I was going to be too time-poor to make a commitment to State League," Green said.
"I had full intentions of playing at Lonnie this year but after Christmas it all got a bit too much and I had to make the decision, and it was not the one I wanted to make but it was something I had to do."
Green said his decision to go to South Launceston was convenient given that he lived only minutes from the Youngtown ground.
"I'm not sure what to expect in the NTFA as yet but the training level at South has been pretty high," he said.
"So I'm expecting it to be a fairly decent competition and I'm looking forward to enjoying football and continuing to play.
"A lot of the guys I've played footy against or know socially and everyone has been very welcoming, so I'm looking forward to a good year up there.
"There are a lot of similarities between Launceston and South in the camaraderie and mateship they show."
