Hawthorn Football Club’s annual Pink Ribbon Game will mark the team’s first home game for the season.
More than 100 people who have been affected by cancer will form a guard of honour before the match and fans are encouraged to wear a splash of pink in support of Cancer Council Tasmania.
Cancer Council volunteers will patrol the stadium with donation wheelie bins and pink merchandise will be available for sale on the day.
Cancer Council fund-raising officer Rebecca Townsend said those who forgot to wear pink could enter the Get Pinked Zones to rectify the situation.
Hawthorn chief executive Stuart Fox was yesterday thankful for the AFL’s support in allowing the Hawks to wear the special socks.
‘‘There are always those logistical issues involved with something like this, but the AFL is always very supportive when there is a strong cause such as this like cancer awareness.
‘‘Cancer affects so many people around Australia, and it is the least we can do, and we are really proud of our relationship with the Cancer Council in Tasmania.’’
