Campbell Town Robins will play against Woodsdale Football Club, armed with a surprise addition - former Campbell Town resident and ex-Hawthorn Football Club player Simon Taylor.
Taylor's father David and brother Dave said they had been trying to bring him back to Campbell Town for a match for years.
"It just so happens that it coincides with the Anzac centenary this year," David said.
Dave said he would be making a comeback — after two retirements — to play alongside his brother.
Campbell Town Robins' Clinton Burn said the game with Taylor had already sparked interest.
"There's people talking about it, we've had people post on our Facebook page from clubs down South — 'who's the ex AFL player playing for you?'," Burn said.
David Taylor said the club, unlike its neighbours in Fingal, started to thrive and hoped the Anzac Day game would add to that.
Robins vice-president Gordon Laycock said as well as trying to introduce an annual match, they would look to grow outdoor activities on Anzac Day.
"Next year we'll probably even have foot running for the kids," Laycock said.
"We're going back to the old traditional family day, it used to be big years ago — it had cycling and all.
"Just like most things it faded away."
The match will begin after the town's 11am Anzac Day march.
Simon Taylor will conduct a short children's AFL workshop before the game begins at Campbell Town Recreation Ground.
