The discussion follows a Launceston Road Safety Consultative Committee meeting in February, which appears to have distanced itself from its 2013 decision to reduce the speed of the major thoroughfares.
The matter will be discussed at the Strategic Planning and Policy Committee meeting on Wednesday.
The meeting will consider introducing a 50km/h speed limit in Bathurst Street between Howick and Brisbane streets, and in Wellington Street between Paterson and Howick streets.
Aldermen will also discuss introducing a part-time 40km/h speed limit in the shopping areas in Hobart Road, Kings Meadows, and at Invermay.
The February committee meeting was supportive of the council’s moves to look at reducing the limit on a number of central business district streets to 40km/h as part of possible City Heart Project traffic changes.
These streets would include: Brisbane, Wellington to Tamar, Cameron, Paterson, Wellington to George, Kingsway, Charles, York to Cimitiere, St John and George.
In other matters before the council, Launceston Aquatic Club president Robyn Titmus will address aldermen on the cost of lane hire at the Launceston Aquatic Centre.
Aldermen will also hear from organisers behind the Innovation Circle, which operates out of a site at the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery.
The council will also hold a special meeting on Wednesday afternoon to determine the development application for a proposed new gym, The Fitness Academy, in Gleadow Street, Invermay.
