‘‘It was definitely a team effort, and I was able to work well with our other goal-kickers,’’ the 2014 premiership player said yesterday
‘‘But it would be one of my better games.
‘‘We knew Launceston was going to be a tough task and we were lucky to get over them I guess.
‘‘We knew it was always going to be a tight contest being the first game of the year, but we did let them back in during that last quarter, and to Launceston’s credit they did play well.’’
Burt’s output saw him receive the best on ground votes in the State League Player of the Year award, as well as drawing praise from coach Zane Littlejohn.
‘‘He competed really well and gave us a real contest inside 50, and he really has improved and come a long way with his fitness,’’ Littlejohn said.
‘‘He is a very important and very valuable and he’s a real leader in our forward-line, if not the leader now Mitchell (VandenBerg has gone).
‘‘That’s not just scoreboard-wise, but also with pressure as well.’’
Other players to receive BOG honours include Lauderdale forward Benjamin Halton for his five-goal haul against the Western Storm, Burnie’s Harry Walters, Hobart City’s Jake Briggs and Glenorchy’s Brayden Webb.
Burt’s Bombers will host Burnie on Saturday night at Aurora Stadium, with the Western Storm and Launceston to meet at the same venue 24 hours earlier.
