"Before the show I was on the road playing to empty bar rooms and now those rooms are full," the singer-songwriter, who released his debut self-titled last year, told X-static.
"Seeing the album in stores was a feeling of great achievement.
"I'm so glad people have been enjoying it.
"I'm already writing and recording the next one.
"I have many original songs that I have been playing on my live shows and the response has been better than I could have imagined."
Ray will play in Tasmania next week, including at Country Club Tasmania on Thursday, April 9.
"I'm so keen for the trip to Tassie," Ray said.
"I've always wanted to get down there.
"These shows will be so much fun. My live shows are full of variety.
"They range from pumping rock instrumentals to acoustic folk ballads to rockabilly and blues.
"It's a loud show with great old school entertainment."
Ray will also play at the Republic Bar in Hobart on April 10 and the Butter Factory in Burnie on April 11.
