Tamar Valley residents are being warned to batten down the hatches ahead of predicted strong winds for Thursday.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds for the North-West coast and central North.
South to south-east winds of 45km/h, with peak gusts of 90km/h, are expected to hit the North between 8am and noon on Thursday, particularly impacting the Tamar Valley.
The North-West coast, west of Wynyard, is predicted to be hit by 50km/h winds and peak gusts of 100km/h between 6am and 11am.
The winds come as part of a trough that will cross the state on Wednesday night and Thursday.
The State Emergency Service and Tasmania Police advise that people in the affected areas should:
- Supervise children closely
- Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment
- Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings
- Manage pets and livestock
- Be prepared in case of power outages
- Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving
- Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice
