The 75 students will be walking the 80 kilometres to raise money for their chosen charity Cystic Fibrosis Tasmania.
For Curtis McGee, 17, the walk will be a tribute to his older brother Aaron, who died from cystic fibrosis when Curtis was in Grade 7.
He said he had raised the suggestion that the Year 12s raise money for this often fatal disease, which has no cure.
‘‘My brother passed away when he was 29 years old and this was after even having a double lung transplant ... it is a terrible disease’’, he said
The walkathon has been an annual rite of passage for Year 12 students at the school since 1963.
Maggie Lahey, 18, said she and her friends had been talking about it since Year 7.
‘‘In the end of year yearbooks everyone says it’s the most memorable moment for them, so I just want to feel that,’’ she said.
‘‘Now it is here everyone is getting a bit nervous. I’m just eager to get going.’’
