Tasmania Fire Service, NRM North and the George Town Council will speak at the event on various topics relevant to bushfire preparedness.
Tasmania Fire Service community development officer (North) David Cleaver said the region was chosen as one that would benefit from the Bushfire Ready Neighbourhoods forum.
He said the single road in and out of the area coupled with the vegetation type made it potentially vulnerable to the negative effects of a bushfire. He said the forum was not linked to the recent bushfire near Lefroy but that the Lefroy bushfire served as a timely warning that bushfires can occur without warning. Mr Cleaver highlighted that bushfire preparation is a year-round activity. He said it was a good opportunity to learn, connect and ask questions in preparation for bushfires.
"We'll be talking about several different things topics - covering bushfire readiness, preparation and bushfire survival planning
"Kate Thorn from NRM North will talk about environmental recovery and vegetation restoration after bushfires and Emma Williams (also from NRM North) will talk about coastal natural values.
"George Town Council will talk about its bushfire code and bushfire hazard management for bushfire prone areas and abatement."
Members from local Tasmania Fire Service volunteer fire brigades will also be in attendance.
Mr Cleaver said it was important residents and holidaymakers from within the area participated in the talks. "Tasmania Fire Service encourages everyone to take a shared responsibility approach to bushfire readiness," he said.
