The crash is believed to have occurred when a blue Subaru Liberty wagon failed to give way to an oncoming taxi as it attempted to turn into Casino Rise.
The passenger side of the wagon was struck by the taxi, trapping its female passenger.
Tasmania Police said the cars then ‘‘shunted’’ a third vehicle waiting to turn onto the avenue from Casino Rise.
The trapped woman was extracted by Tasmania Fire crews, who used the ‘‘jaws of life’’ to remove the door of the wagon.
She was taken to Launceston General Hospital with suspected minor injuries.
Tasmania Police Sergeant Scott McKinnell said neither speed, drugs nor alcohol were believed to be factors in the crash.
‘‘Preliminary investigations indicate one vehicle has failed to give way to another when turning right onto Casino Rise,’’ Sergeant McKinnell said.
‘‘That may have been contributed to by the low setting sun affecting visibility through glare.’’
He said police would continue interviews once medical treatment was complete.
