The Tasmanian Roofs for Vanuatu campaign aims to raise enough money to repair 1000 roofs after Cyclone Pam tore through the island-nation earlier this month.
After he was inspired on an overseas trip he made in his 20s, Roofs for Vanuatu co-ordinator Peter Shurley has worked on similar projects for the past 25 years.
"I came to understand how the majority of the world lives and at the same time I realised what a privileged life I have just because I was born in Australia," Mr Shurley said.
"Increasingly, the world is shrinking and we are becoming a global community.
"There's always an incredible need to rehouse these families."
In support of the campaign, Roofs for Vanuatu will hold a concert in Ulverstone on Tuesday to raise money for the estimated 80 per cent of families in the country who no longer have shelter.
Paulini (Curuenavuli), Matthew Garwood and musician Katy Pakinga will come together for an intimate performance on the night.
"The performers have been unbelievably generous with their time and that's made the concert a reality," he said.
"We're starting to see donations coming in from all over the state so that's really exciting."
